Robbery suspects shoot, hurt 2 persons in Mabolo

Two men were shot and wounded after they tried to apprehend two men accused of robbing two foreigners in barangay Mabolo, Cebu City, at dawn yesterday.

The two suspects were arrested after a brief chase with police.

One of the suspects, Joseph Flores, 21, of barangay Cambaro, Mandaue City, was shot in the leg by a policeman after he allegedly tried to escape. Flores also sustained wounds on the different parts of his body.

Flores’ companion was identified as Fer Adlaon, 23, of sitio Suba-Maslo, barangay Basak, Lapu-Lapu City.

Flores and Adlaon both denied any wrongdoing.

Police said Flores and Adlaon had two companions but they eluded arrest. Police said it was the suspects’ companions who shot Antonio Ortega, 24, and a 17-year-old boy.

Police said witnesses identified Flores and Adlaon as the ones who tried to rob Megome Seno, 28, a Japanese national, and 28-year-old Taiwanese national Shuo Sung.

Police said the two foreigners were walking along S. Cabahug Street when two men on a motorcycle blocked their paths, pointed a gun at them and declared a hold-up.

The two foreigners resisted which forced the two motorcycle-riding men to drive off empty-handed.

Police said Ortega and the teenager were hanging out with friends on F. Gochan Street when they learned the robbery on S. Cabahug Street.

Police said Ortega, the boy and their other friends saw a motorcycle traveling in their direction.

Ortega and the boy tried to block the motorcycle when the backrider fired at them but missed.

Police said a silver gray Sedan gray that was seen tailing the motorcycle stopped a few meters from the two victims’ group.

A man disembarked from the car and shot Ortega and the boy. Ortega and the teenagers sustained gunshot wounds on the legs. They were later rushed to a Cebu City hospital.

Members of the Cebu City Intelligence Branch (CIB) conducted a follow-up operation that resulted to the arrest of the suspects on F.F. Cruz Street barangay Subangdaku, Mandaue, past 3 a.m.

Police said the two men were on a motorcycle when they were arrested.

Flores and Adlaon were detained Cebu City Police Office while waiting for charges to be filed against them.
