Palace hails Carlo Biado for winning 2021 US Open Pool Championship

MANILA, Philippines —  Malacañang on Sunday hailed Carlo Biado for bringing “pride and honor” to the country by winning the 2021 US Open Pool Championship in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

Biado’s win ended a 27 -year drought for the Philippines after Efren “Bata” Reyes’ victory at the prestigious 9-ball competition in 1994.

“We congratulate Carlo Biado for bringing pride and honor to the country by winning the 2021 US Open Pool Championship in Atlantic City,” presidential spokesperson Harry Roque said in a statement

“Carlo is indeed a world-class billiards champion,” he added.

According to Roque, President Rodrigo Duterte also awarded Biado a presidential citation when he won a gold medal in the 29th Southeast Asian Games in 2017.

This is Biado’s second major world title after his 2017 World Pool Championship win.
