MANILA, Philippines — A group of entrepreneurs on Friday urged Manila Mayor Isko Moreno to run for President in the 2022 elections.

Members of the Young Entrepreneurs Supporting Isko Moreno (YES Isko) launched their campaign through a brief event at the Bonifacio Shrine in Manila, praising the mayor for his “trailblazing leadership.

“We believe ‘Yorme’ deserves to be the President of the Republic of the Philippines,” said YES Isko convenor Ali Garangan II, referring to Moreno‘s moniker “Yorme,” which is a slang for “mayor.”

“Kami ay nananawagan po sa inyo na sana po ay tumakbo po kayo sa pagka-presidente sa 2022. Kami ay nananiniwala sa inyong leadership and dedication, sa pagmamahal sa ating mga kababayan,” he said in an interview with Radyo INQUIRER.

The group noted that Moreno mitigated the economic impact of COVID-19 in his city. They also said the mayor has the right track record to become the president.

“He showed compassion and understanding for those who lost their jobs and businesses that incurred massive financial loss,” Garangan said.

“We are witnesses to how Moreno almost single-handedly changed the image of the nation’s capital; by cleaning up the streets, eradicating corruption, and improving the lives of Manileños in a span of just three years,” the group said in a statement.

“We are confident that Yorme can do the same for the entire Philippines,” the group further said.
