MANILA, Philippines — Metro Manila’s COVID-19 cases rose by 3 percent in the past week even as its reproduction number further decreased, a member of pandemic monitor OCTA Research said Friday.
In a tweet, OCTA Research fellow Dr. Guido David said cases in the region averaged at 5,710 from September 10-16, “an increase of 3% from the previous seven days (September 3 to 9).”
Meanwhile, the region’s reproduction number or the estimated number of cases stemming from a single case has gone down to 1.25.
On Thursday, OCTA Research said Metro Manila’s reproduction number has decreased to 1.28 from the previous 1.34.

Of the 21,261 new COVID-19 cases logged nationwide on September 16, 5,846 were recorded in Metro Manila.
Metro Manila just began its pilot implementation of general community quarantine or GCQ Alert Level 4. During this period, local government units can also impose granular lockdowns in small areas with high COVID-19 cases.
Under Alert Level 4, businesses like restaurants and personal care services were allowed to reopen but only at a limited capacity.
