Ilocos region classified as ‘high risk’ area for COVID-19 infection

LAOAG CITY — The Department of Health on Tuesday classified the Ilocos region as one of the “high risk” areas for COVID-19 infections across the country.

According to the latest risk classification data from the DOH, the average daily attack rate (ADAR) of Ilocos region fell under the “high risk” level, increasing to 16.22 cases per 100,000 population from August 30 to September 12, compared to the 12.01 during the period of August 26- 29.

The ADAR is considered high risk if it reaches a rate of seven and above.

Beds devoted to COVID-19 across all hospitals in the region had also hit the “high risk” occupancy level with 76.17 percent already occupied, according to the DOH.

Utilization rates for mechanical ventilators and intensive care unit beds are both at a “moderate risk” level, the DOH added.

So far, the Ilocos region has logged a total of 65,633 COVID-19 cases since the pandemic struck last year, of which 11,773 are active infections, 52,590 recovered and 1,270 died.  INQ
