MANILA, Philippines — The city government of Taguig on Monday announced that the city will be one of the pilot areas approved to have face-to-face classes once in-person learning has been allowed in Metro Manila.
According to Taguig’s local government, this came after the city recently breached 1 million COVID-19 vaccines administered, allowing the Department of Education (DepEd) to have confidence in the city’s capacity for in-person learning.
It added that the city also continues to have the lowest fatality rate with 308 or 0.78 percent record compared to the 1.90 percent of Metro Manila as of Sept. 11, 2021.
While face to face classes remain suspended, however, the current school year in the city will utilize a combination of distance learning methods “to deliver quality education to its students depending on the students’ and parents’ preferences.”
The city has also provided students in Taguig with school packages that include a bag, school uniform, P.E. uniform, raincoat, modules, supplies, emergency bag, and emergency kit.
Taguig’s local government then promised that it will continue its aggressive vaccination to ensure that the city can safely and successfully transition to students attending their face-to-face classes.
The city has a total of 39,995 confirmed cases of COVID-19, 1,797 active cases, 37,870 recoveries and 308 deaths, as of Sept. 13.
Meanwhile, the country currently has a total of 2,248,071 cases of COVID-19, which includes 180,293 active infections, 2,032,471 recoveries and 35,307 deaths.
