Police arrest 54,930 in Cavite for violation of quarantine rules
LUCENA CITY — Police arrested 54,930 in Cavite for quarantine violations over the past week as local governments struggle to stop the spread of COVID-19 and its highly transmissible Delta variant.
Police Colonel Marlon Santos, Cavite police chief, reported Sunday that authorities arrested the violators in different cities and municipalities in the province from September 6 to 12.
At least 6,116 individuals were nabbed for not wearing face masks, 8,290 for improperly using their face masks, 19,893 for not using face shields, and 14,885 others for not properly wearing face shields, the police report said.
Police said 3,100 violators were also reprimanded for not observing safe social distancing and 2,646 others for violating curfew hours in their respective localities.
Cavite, which remains under a modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) until the end of the month, still has 18,896 active COVID-19 cases as of September 10.
According to the Department of Health (DOH) in Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon), Cavite has recorded 71 COVID-19 Delta variant cases as of September 5.
