Father, son injured in Olongapo landslide

OLONGAPO CITY—A father and his son were injured after a landslide hit their house in this city early morning on Saturday, authorities said.

Jeffrey Lapid, operations section chief of the city’s disaster risk reduction management office (DRRMO), said victims Francisco Dico Sr. and his son James Ryan sustained minor injuries in the landslide in Purok (zone) 5 in Upper Kalaklan here at around 3 a.m.

Lapid said James Ryan was rescued after he was trapped in the collapsed portion of a wall in their house, which was totally damaged.

They were treated and are now safe in the house of relatives.

Six individuals belonging to another family in the same neighborhood were advised to evacuate after the incident.

The landslide was caused by a heavy downpour spawned by southwest monsoon enhanced by Typhoon “Kiko” (Chanthu).
