MANILA, Philippines — Two train sets for the Metro Rail Train 7 (MRT 7) project of San Miguel Corp. (SMC) arrived from South Korea at the Port of Manila on Tuesday.
The two sets consist of six cars, according to Ramon Ang, SMC president and CEO.
“In a few days, the trains will be taken to our MRT-7 mainline. We’re expecting four more trainsets to arrive by December,” Ang said in a post on his Facebook page.
Ang announced the coming of the trains a week earlier from South Korea’s Hyundai Rotem, a food, drinks, and infrastructure conglomerate.
The MRT 7 is a P63-billion project that started construction in 2016. It will link North Avenue in Quezon City to San Jose del Monte in Bulacan and will serve as a unified transit hub linking the MRT 3, Light Rail Transit Line 1, and eventually, the Metro Manila subway.
SMC expects a total of 108 coaches to be shipped in the coming months.
