Jolina leaves 2,500 passengers stranded

MANILA, Philippines—At least 2,500 passengers were left stranded in various ports in Luzon and Visayas due to severe Tropical Storm Jolina (Conson), the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said on Tuesday (Sept. 7).

Parts of Luzon and Visayas were under storm signals as of Tuesday afternoon.

The PCG said it has monitored a total of 2,531 passengers, drivers, and cargo helpers stuck in various ports with 26 vessels, 972 rolling cargoes and seven motorboats in the regions of Eastern Visayas, Bicol, Western Visayas and Southern Tagalog.

At least 58 vessels and 95 motorboats had also taken shelter due to Jolina.

The storm was moving over the Sibuyan Sea as of posting time. In the next 12 hours, it was expected to head west northwestward, toward the southern Quezon-Marinduque area.
