Enrollees for SY 2021-2022 near 19 million — DepEd
MANILA, Philippines — Almost 19 million students have enrolled so far for School Year 2021-2022, the Department of Education (DepEd) reported on Tuesday.
DepEd’s latest enrollment figure showed a total of 18,901,373 learners have registered. This is 72.1 percent of last school year’s 26,227,022 enrollees.

Of the total, 13,398,597 have registered in public schools, 925,961 in private schools, and 19,488 in state or local universities and colleges. Meanwhile, 4,557,327 were early enrollees.
Based on data, Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon) still tops the list of most enrollees at 2,736,301 while the Cordillera Administrative Region is on the bottom at 362,743.
A separate enrollment count showed that 154,670 students have registered under the alternative learning system. This is 25.81 percent of last school year’s 599,365.

Education Undersecretary Nepomuceno Malaluan advised parents Monday to not wait for the last day of enrollment to register their children.
The last day of enrollment is September 13, also the opening of the school year.
Blended learning will remain implemented to avoid the contraction of COVID-19. However, if face-to-face classes would be allowed, it would be limited to a number of kindergarten to Grade 3 students to promote physical distancing, Malaluan said.
