MANILA, Philippines — Metro Manila and 18 other areas were placed under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 1 on Tuesday due to Typhoon Jolina, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).

In its latest bulletin, Pagasa said the typhoon continues to move west northwest at 15 kilometers per hour (kph) over the Samar Sea towards Masbate.

The center of the eye of “Jolina” was last located over the coastal waters of Almagro, Samar. The typhoon is packing maximum sustained winds of 120 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 150 kph.

Metro Manila was not under any TCWS in the previous bulletin of Pagasa. But in its 8 a.m. update, the state weather bureau said strong winds are prevailing or are expected within the next 36 hours in the capital region and the following 18 other areas placed under TCWS No. 1:
