LEGAZPI CITY––Four people died Sunday night and at dawn Monday in separate road mishaps in Camarines Sur and Sorsogon, a police report said.
In Juban town in Sorsogon, a motorcycle rammed at around 10:30 p.m. a ten-wheeler truck along the road in Barangay Poblacion, killing the still unidentified motorcycle driver and his back rider on the spot, said Major Maria Luisa Calubaquib, Bicol police spokesperson.
The report said the speeding motorcycle took the lane of the truck that led to a head-on collision.
The victims died while being taken to the town’s rural health unit.
The truck, driven by Willie Solomon, 36, of Bulan, Sorsogon, is under police custody. Solomon told police investigators that the truck was on its way to Cebu City from Metro Manila.
In Baao town in Camarines Sur, Joemar Ofong, resident of Quezon City, the driver of a Toyota Hi-Ace Van, and a passenger whose identity has yet to be released, died in a crash with a car along the Maharlika Highway in Barangay San Jose, Calubaquib said.
The report said a Toyota Innova, driven by Marlo Tacalan with passenger Ely Bongay while negotiating the highway, encroached on the lane and collided with the Toyota Hi-Ace Van transporting nine passengers.
Ofong and his still unidentified passenger died on the spot, while the other passengers suffered injuries and were taken to nearby hospitals in the town and Naga City for treatment.
