SAN ANTONIO, Zambales––As the number of COVID-19 cases continues to rise in this province, more health workers have been contracting the viral disease, an official said Sunday, Sept. 5.

Dr. Noel Bueno, provincial health director, said five nurses, a nursing attendant, and a doctor were among the 69 new cases reported in this province on that day.

But the active cases in the province slightly decreased to 998 after 81 more patients recovered from COVID-19.

On Sept. 4, Zambales reached new record-high active infections at 1,110 after a virus outbreak at the Masinloc coal-fired power plant.

Since the COVID-19 pandemic struck last year, the province registered 6,587 cases, of which 5,692 recovered, while 197 died.
