MANILA, Philippines — Vice President Leni Robredo on Monday bared that she is not interested in launching a bid for the Senate in the 2022 elections
“No. I’m not,” Robredo said in an interview on ABS-CBN New Channel on Monday when asked if she is open to joining the senatorial race next year.
“Tingin ko, hindi iyon ang aking strength [I think that’s not one of my strengths],” she added.
Robredo is being eyed as the possible opposition candidate for president in next year’s elections.
The vice president herself has said that she is open to run for the presidency, but has yet to make a decision on the matter.
“I can run for a local position, I can retire, I can just help the next administration if I don’t run for president,” she went on.
’Serious thought’
Robredo has been meeting with various officials and personalities in an attempt to establish a unified opposition that would go against the administration’s anointed candidate in 2022.
Meanwhile, several groups have been calling on Robredo to run for the highest position in the country.
“I’m very, very grateful for the trust and support,” she said.
“I don’t take this trust lightly and I continue to give serious thought to this,” she added.
