More quarantine violators accosted

MANILA, Philippines — More public health safety protocol violators were accosted daily in Metro Manila under the less strict lockdown than in a hard lockdown, according to Gen. Guillermo Eleazar, chief of the Philippine National Police.

Eleazar said police personnel had accosted 942,000 quarantine violators nationwide in the last two weeks.

In a radio interview on Sunday, the PNP chief lamented the seeming complacency of the public in adhering to minimum health standards and quarantine protocols despite surging COVID-19 cases.

He said an average of 13,000 violators in Metro Manila were accosted daily by the police from Aug. 21 to Sept. 4. From Aug. 6 to Aug. 20, an average of 10,000 violators were accosted daily.
