Zambales now averaging 100 new COVID-19 cases daily under GCQ

SAN ANTONIO, Zambales—The number of COVID-19 cases in this province soared by more than 1,000 in the last 10 days despite reverting to stricter quarantine restrictions.

The latest data from the provincial health office show that 108 new COVID-19 cases were added to the province’s tally on Wednesday, Sept. 1.

On Aug. 21, the province shifted from modified general community quarantine (MGCQ), the least restrictive form of quarantine, to the stricter general community quarantine (GCQ) with heightened restrictions.

Since then, the province has logged 1,006 new COVID-19 cases, which pushed to 6,206 its total number of infections since the pandemic began last year.

The province’s fatalities from COVID-19 have climbed to 187.
