Makati eyes vaccination of 70% of target population by end-September
MANILA, Philippines — The local government of Makati is eyeing to vaccinate 70 percent of its target population against COVID-19 by the end of the month, Mayor Abigail “Abby” Binay said.
“We have not hit our target population yet. But based on our calculation, we should be able to reach our 70 percent on the first dose by the end of the month, hopefully,” Binay told INQside Look on Thursday.
As of Wednesday, 311,229 out of the 437,192 target population have received the first dose while 171,835 are fully vaccinated. Makati City has a total population of 624,560.
COVID-19 vaccine supply remains as the hurdle in Makati City’s inoculation program, Binay noted.
Despite this, she boasted that the city government was able to more than double its daily target on August 31, and they are looking to further increase it.

Binay added that she wanted to show the Department of Health (DOH) and the National Vaccine Operations Center (NVOC) that the city government could exceed its daily target.
“The fact that we were able to reach 11,000, nag-overtime pa kami. We were still vaccinating people after 8 p.m. kasi gusto namin ipakita sa NVOC saka sa DOH na kaya namin i-hit or more than double our target,” Binay explained.
