MABALACAT CITY, Pampanga––The Angeles City government has started administering the Sinopharm vaccine, the sixth brand used to inoculate city residents against COVID-19.

The city government said Wednesday that 1,431 residents of Barangay Lourdes Sur East and 1,767 from Sapangbato were injected their first doses of Sinopharm.

The city government said it used Sinovac and Pfizer to vaccinate a record 9,764 priority residents.

Many essential employees have been asking the city government to prioritize them in the vaccination drive. Some say they have yet to receive schedules despite registering online since July.

On Wednesday, Angeles City recorded 100 new COVID-19 cases, 55 recoveries, and three deaths. The fatalities were from Cutcut, Pandan, and Pulung Maragul villages.

The city’s active cases stood at 1,574 as of Sept. 2.

Angeles City has recorded 9,696 COVID-19 cases since the pandemic began last year. Of these, 7,751 have recovered, while 398 have died.

Mayor Carmelo Lazatin Jr., who got full jabs of Sinovac in June, tested positive Wednesday for COVID-19 and is now confined in a hospital.
