Policeman, another commuter dead in separate Quezon road mishaps

LUCENA CITY––Two motorcycle riders, one of them a policeman, died in separate road accidents Wednesday in Quezon province.

Reports from the provincial police said police Patrolman Alvin Taborda, 31, was driving his motorcycle when he lost control of his vehicle that consequently skidded along the Quirino Highway in Barangay Poblacion in Tagkawayan town around 2:30 p.m.

Taborda was thrown from the motorcycle and ran over by the rear tire of a truck running behind. He died on the spot, the report said.

Police arrested truck driver Renato Abong, who tried to escape.

In Candelaria town, motorcycle rider Rommel Pasahol, 31, died after a truck bumped his vehicle from behind in Barangay Bulak Sur around 8 p.m.

The report said Pasahol suffered severe head and body injuries and failed to reach the Candelaria District Hospital alive.

The truck driver, Joel Martin, fled after the incident but was intercepted by policemen in neighboring Sariaya town.
