MANILA, Philippines — Over 13.7 million individuals in the Philippines are now fully vaccinated against COVID-19, government data showed, as the country sees a renewed surge in COVID-19 cases due to the Delta variant.
According to government data released Tuesday, over 33 million COVID-19 vaccine doses have been administered since August 29. Of this number, 19.3 million were provided as first jabs.
The country was administering an average of 387,176 vaccine doses in the last seven days. An average of 1,821 vaccination sites is active in the said period.
Per priority group, 1.9 million healthcare workers, 3.9 million senior citizens, 5 million persons with comorbidity, 2.3 million essential workers, and 474,179 indigents are now fully vaccinated.
Vaccine czar Carlito Galvez Jr. earlier said the government is expecting to receive 25 million COVID-19 vaccine doses in September and 114 million more doses in the fourth quarter of the year.
The government is aiming to boost vaccination coverage as the country battles a new surge of cases. On Monday alone, the Department of Health confirmed 22,366 new COVID-19 infections—the highest single-day increase—taking total active cases to 148,594.
Over 70 million Filipinos need to be vaccinated for the country to reach herd immunity against coronavirus.
