Paknaan relocation site project gets P300,000 boost

MANDAUE City’s Paknaan relocation site project got a financial boost from Rep. Lorenzo Tanada Jr. yesterday.

Tanada pledged P300,000 for the electricity and water connection of the 6.5 hectare relocation site.

Tanada promised the amount after the Mandaue City’s Housing and Urban Development Office (HUDO) sought his assistance for the project.

Tanada was in Cebu yesterday to speak in a student forum about the Freedom of Information Bill at the University of the Visayas.

Meanwhile, lawyer Francisco Amit, socialized housing consultant said that the relocation site project was hampered by road-right-of-way problem.

Amit said that the problem had delayed the construction of the road leading to the relocation site.

Amit said the Mandaue City government was negotiating with occupants in the government lot to be used as a road to the site.

He said the local government couldn’t give financial assistance to move out because these people already received assistance when they were told to move when the nearby Cansaga bridge was constructed.

The road leading to the site would also affect a portion of a Mandaue City official’s house.

Amit said some occupants told him that they would only vacate the lot if the government official would also move out of the place.

However, Amit said that the road project would only affect a portion of the fence of the official.

Laywer Giovani Tianero, Mandaue City Legal Officer, said notices were already sent to houses identified to be affected by the road project.

Tianero, however, said that they were still identifying more houses and who would be given financial assistance. /Correspondent Norman V. Mendoza with a report from Correspondent Fe Marie D. Dumaboc
