MANILA, Philippines — The Partido Demokratiko Pilipino–Lakas ng Bayan (PDP–Laban) has elected Sen. Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III as its new party chairman replacing President Rodrigo Duterte, a party executive said on Sunday.
Meanwhile, former governor of Eastern Samar Lutgardo Barbo replaced Alfonso Cusi as the party’s vice chairman.
According to PDP-Laban Executive Director Ron Munsayac, the “original” PDP-Laban convened its national council Sunday afternoon.
“It was attended by our national and regional officers and national committee chairmen led by Party President and our ‘Pambansang Kamao’ Sen. Manny Pacquiao, who is currently airborne on his way home here,” said PDP-Laban Executive Director Ron Munsayac in a message to reporters.
“The PDP LABAN National Council elected Sen. Koko Pimentel as its Chairman and former Gov. Lutgardo Barbo as Vice Chairman,” he added.
Sen. Pimentel’s father, Aquilino “Nene” Pimentel Jr. founded PDP-Laban on February 6, 1982.
