Duterte’s 2022 election plan, a ‘political circus’ — Bayan Muna

MANILA, Philippines — President Rodrigo Duterte’s 2022 election bid is a “political circus,” Bayan Muna Representative Ferdinand Gaite said.

“Duterte is obviously just putting on a show, a political circus to distract everyone from the more important issues haunting his corrupt and inutile regime,” Gaite said in a statement on Friday.

Gaite added that the president’s confirmation to run as vice president in the 2022 polls is a diversionary tactic from government agencies flagged by the Commission on Audit over the handling of funds.

“Hindi kinayang pahupain ng drama nila ni Duque ang galit ng mamamayan kaya nagpapalutang sila ng bagong pag-uusapan,” Gaite said, referring to Health Secretary Francisco Duque III who heads the Department of Health which was flagged for P67-billion worth of deficiencies in the COVID-19 funds.

(Duque’s drama was not able to calm the public’s anger that’s why they floated another issue to be talked about.)

However, Filipinos will not fall for this misdirection as they wait to hold the Duterte administration accountable.

“But the people will not fall for this pathetic clown or magician’s act of misdirection to confuse the people. Nakatutok sila sa paniningil at pagpapanagot sa administrasyong Duterte, sa mga imbestigasyon sa maanomalyang paggamit sa pera ng bayan, sa pagbabantay sa talakayan tungkol sa 2022 national budget,” the representative said.

(But the people will not fall for this pathetic clown or magician’s act of misdirection to confuse the people. They are focused on seeking accountability in Duterte’s administration, in the investigation of anomalous use of public funds, and in guarding the 2022 national budget deliberations.)

Gaite is confident that the public will reject Duterte’s political maneuvers — be it his team up with Senator Bong Go-Duterte or with her daughter Sara Duterte — to escape accountability.

“Nangangarap na at nakatanaw na ang sambayanan sa isang Pilipinas na walang Duterte sa kapangyarihan. We will not be fooled,” Gaite expressed.

(The public is dreaming and looking forward to one Philippines where there is no Duterte in power. We will not be fooled.)

Inquirer.net sought Malacañang’s reaction on the matter but the Palace has yet to respond as of this story’s posting.
