MANILA, Philippines — Former Commission on Elections (Comelec) commissioner Gregorio Larrazabal on Saturday called for the resumption of the voter registration in areas under modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ).
Larrazabal made the appeal after Metro Manila and other areas were placed under MECQ until September 7.
“Please allow people to register even in MECQ. Banks, supermarkets, retail stores are already open during MECQ,” Larrazabal said in a tweet.
“We lose 7 more days for people to register as voters,” he added.

Currently, the poll body only allows voter registration in areas under general community quarantine (GCQ) and modified GCQ areas.
In areas where voter registration is allowed, the hours were extended and the registration was made available on Saturdays and holidays.
Voter registration ends on September 30.
