2 Delta variant cases in Leyte

ORMOC CITY – Two cases of the highly transmissible COVID-19 Delta variant were recorded in Leyte, according to the Department of Health in Eastern Visayas on Thursday, August 26.

Dr. Mark Capuncol, chief of the Regional Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit, said the two new cases involved returning overseas Filipino workers from the municipalities of Hilongos and Hindang.

Capuncol disclosed that the patient from Hilongos is asymptomatic and is being quarantined in an undisclosed isolation facility.

On the other hand, the patient from Hindang arrived in Davao City last July. The patient, who was eight months pregnant, completed a mandatory quarantine in an isolation facility in Davao. After completing quarantine, she was allowed to return home to Tacloban City on August 9.

Capuncol said the patient is still isolated in a facility in Hindang.

“We highly encourage the cooperation of everyone to follow the minimum health standards. Please stay at home and avoid unnecessary gatherings and non-essential travel during these times,” he said.
