BAGUIO CITY — The mayor of La Paz town in Abra province revealed in a statement Saturday that she and her children have tested positive for COVID-19.
La Paz Mayor Ching Bernos said the test results came just right after being exposed to their family members and other government officials in Abra province.
“I regretfully inform the public that my daughter Andrea, my son Jaybong, and I have tested positive for COVID-19,” Bernos said.
The mayor, the wife of Abra Representative JB Bernos, said she is currently admitted to a hospital. Her children, who are asymptomatic, are undergoing home quarantine.
Bernos said despite being positive, she is optimistic that their recovery will be faster as she and her daughter were already vaccinated.
She also expressed hope that her young son will overcome the disease.
Bernos appealed to people who have been in close contact with them in the past days to observe precautionary measures. She also urged them to undergo COVID-19 testing to be sure of their health condition.
