MANILA, Philippines — Pasig City is eyeing to push its daily vaccinations to 12,000 in the following weeks, Mayor Vico Sotto disclosed.

“But now, we’re able to consistently vaccinate more than 8,000. Many days, we reach more than 10,000 as long as the turnout is good… and we’re looking to even increase this to 12,000 in the coming weeks,” Sotto said in an INQside Look interview which premiered this Friday.

Based on the microplan that Pasig City submitted to the Department of Health and the World Health Organization in 2020, the initial vaccination target was 5,800 per day.

Currently, Pasig City consistently administers over 8,000 vaccines per day, hitting 10,000 most days. Sotto said that, for now, they are targeting to maintain the 10,000 shots per day.

“Our goal for now is to consistently reach the 10,000 jab-per-day mark which is almost double of our initial target when we submitted our microplan last year,” Sotto shared.

The city government has 12 operational vaccination sites.

Sotto said the city government is not planning to extend vaccination hours to further boost immunization.

“Right now, we do not have any plans to vaccinate during the night. We feel that there are  so many moving parts in this vaccination program,” Sotto mentioned.

The city government, however, may consider the move should they have abundant resources.

“We will open up new vaccination sites. We will hire new personnel. We will extend hours. But, at this point, where we’re vaccinating 8,000 to 10,000 people, even until we get around 12,000 people per day or jabs per day, it’s not enough to justify extension into the night hours,” Sotto expounded.
