Arrest warrant out vs ex-US diplomat
A Pasay court on Thursday issued a warrant for the arrest of Dean Edward Cheves, former US diplomat, who has been charged for engaging in illicit sexual activities with a 16-year-old Filipino woman.
Presiding Judge Christian Castañeda of the Pasay City Regional Trial Court Branch 109 issued the warrant on Cheves, who has been indicted by the Eastern District of Virginia in the United States earlier this month for his sexual misconduct during his stint in the Philippines.
Child pornographic materials were also found in his possession during his service here.
He served at the US Embassy in Manila from September 2020 to February 2021.
The court charged Cheves with violating Republic Act No. 7610, or the child abuse law, and RA 9775, or the Anti-Child Pornography Act, and set the bail at P200,00 for each case. —JANE BAUTISTA
