MANILA, Philippines — Navotas City has recorded a high of 23-percent COVID-19 positivity rate from August 11 to 17, Mayor Toby Tiangco shared on Monday.
However, this figure went down to 19 percent the following week, from August 18 to 24, according to the Navotas Public Information Office (PIO) on Wednesday.
“Nasa 23 percent ‘yung positivity rate po. Medyo mataas po ‘yan because ang pinakamababa po nating naabot nung January is two percent,” Tiangco said on INQside Look.

With the threat of the more transmissible Delta COVID-19 variant, Tiangco said that children in the city were not spared and have tested positive for the virus.
“Sorry, I don’t have the numbers right now, pero definitely meron talagang infection among children,” the mayor said.

The city’s top official also noted that the Navotas City Hospital is already at full capacity as it only has 50 beds.
To curb the rising cases, Tiangco appealed to his constituents to observe health protocols, remain at home as much as possible, and to get vaccinated.
As of Tuesday, Navotas City recorded a total of 13,610 confirmed cases. Of which, recoveries and deaths stood at 11,959 and 430, respectively. Active cases, meanwhile, are at 1,221.
