SAN ANTONIO, Zambales — At least 10 more fatalities related to COVID-19 were registered in this province on Tuesday (Aug. 24), raising its death toll to 167, an official said.
Dr. Noel Bueno, provincial health director, said among the latest fatalities were a 59-year-old barangay official in Cabangan town and a 60-year-old pastor in the capital town of Iba.
The other fatalities were aged 57-90 and all had no travel history outside the province, Bueno said.
Citing local data, Bueno said 85 new COVID-19 cases were also logged on the same day, pushing to 789 the total number of active cases.
The province was recently placed on general community quarantine (GCQ) with heighted restrictions and has been requiring its residents working in nearby areas to undergo weekly COVID-19 testing. GCQ is the second least restrictive quarantine classification.
To date, the province has recorded a total of 5,537 confirmed cases of COVID-19 but at least 4,581 of these have already recovered from the viral disease.
