MANILA, Philippines — The Pasay City General Hospital (PCGH) on Tuesday announced that it has already reached full capacity for COVID-19 patients in its emergency room and intensive care unit (ICU).

“As of 5:15 p.m. today, we are already full capacity for all of our Covid beds and Covid ICU beds,” said the PCGH hospital management.

It then asked patients in need of medical treatment to refer to the Department of Health’s (DOH) One Hospital Command Center.

Earlier in a separate statement, the hospital also announced that it has temporarily closed its emergency rooms as of 12:30 p.m., due to the high number of COVID-19 patients located at its triage and isolation rooms.

“Give us time to decongest and disinfect the area so we may accept again COVID and non-COVID patients,” said PCGH director Dr. John Victor de Gracia.

As of August 24, Pasay City has recorded a total of 16,766 confirmed cases of COVID-19. This includes 836 active cases, 15,497 recoveries, and 433 deaths.

Meanwhile, the DOH earlier reported that the country has reached 1,869,691 total COVID-19 cases with 127,703 active cases and 32,264 deaths.

The country is currently experiencing another surge in COVID-19 cases due to the spread of the more transmissible COVID-19 Delta variant. On Monday, state health experts logged the highest daily number ever recorded since the pandemic began in 2020 at 18,332 cases.

The entire Metro Manila is currently under modified enhanced community quarantine, the second strictest quarantine measure, until the end of August.
