MANILA, Philippines — Deaths caused by COVID-19 complications have reached 32,264 on Tuesday following the demise of 303 more patients, according to the Department of Health (DOH).

It was the third time that the agency logged deaths that are over 300 for August. The highest record for the month was on August 21 with 398 deaths—the second highest next to 401 deaths on April 9.

A total of 4,080 deaths have so far been confirmed only for August.

The 32,264 total fatalities compose 1.73 percent of all the 1,869,691 confirmed cases of the disease in the country.

The DOH has earlier warned of an increase in COVID-19 deaths after it noted a plateau in the number of fatalities and a surge in infections.

New COVID-19 cases have reached over 10,000 again in August as the DOH reports more cases of the highly transmissible Delta variant of the SARS-CoV-2 virus that causes the disease.

The country logged 18,332 additional cases on Monday—the highest ever single-day increase since the onset of the pandemic.
