MANILA, Philippines — Due to limited options, a 26-year-old woman gave birth in a vaccination site at the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) headquarters on Monday.
In a statement Tuesday, the MMDA said the woman was brought to the facility after being denied at a lying-in clinic near Guadalupe Church and being forced to wait at a nearby Guadalupe Nuevo barangay hall.
The father of the baby, who works as a tricycle driver, sought help at the facility at 5:27 p.m. in assisting the woman who was already experiencing labor pains.
The MMDA vaccination team immediately set up a makeshift delivery table while waiting for an ambulance.
Shortly after, the woman gave birth to a healthy baby girl, and both the mother and baby were in good condition.
MMDA Chairman Benhur Abalos lauded the agency’s vaccination team members who helped the couple for going “beyond their call of duty.
“In these trying times, we are very much grateful for all the work done by our frontliners and vaccination team. They don’t just vaccinate, but they are also ready and willing to help those who need immediate medical attention,” Abalos said.
