ILOILO CITY— Aklan province recorded 21 new COVID-19 cases of the Delta variant, the provincial health office said on Monday.
The number of cases of the more infectious variant is 40 percent of the 52 new cases recorded in Western Visayas.
Iloilo City has 11 new Delta variant cases.
Twenty of those infected in Aklan have recovered while one died, according to a provincial health office.
It said it is closely coordinating with local governments in managing the cases.
The cases include five in the capital town of Kalibo, three in Numancia town, two each in the towns of Bangay, Ibajay, New Washington, Malinag and Madalag.
The towns of Nabas, Tangalan and Makato have one case each.
Aklan has a cumulative total of 11,213 COVID-19 cases as of August 22, with 1,523 cases.
The province has been under modified enhanced community quarantine from August 1 to 31.
COVID-19 cases in Western Visayas reached 98,173 as of August 22, with 10,935 active cases.
