SAN ANTONIO, Zambales––As the number of COVID-19 cases surged in the province over the weekend, only one intensive care unit (ICU) bed was left vacant.

Based on the tracker of the Department of Health (DOH) on Monday, 17 of the 18 ICU beds in the President Ramon Magsaysay Memorial hospital, the main COVID-19 facility in the province, were occupied. This is classified as critical.

At the Subic Bay Freeport, all of the eight ICU beds of Allied Care Experts (ACE) Medical Center – Baypointe, Inc. were occupied.

The DOH said the isolation facilities of these two hospitals were also fully occupied.

Only the district hospitals in San Marcelino and Candelaria have an isolation facility for COVID-19 patients.

On Sunday, the province reported 111 new cases of COVID-19, pushing the total number of active cases to 730. INQ
