MANILA, Philippines — The “habagat” or the southwest monsoon will continue to bring rain over Occidental Mindoro and Palawan, while the rest of the country will experience hot and humid weather in the next 24 hours, said the state weather bureau on Monday.

According to Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) weather specialist Ariel Rojas, the habagat is expected to affect the western side of Mimaropa in the next few days.

“Inaasahan po sa mga susunod pang araw ay patuloy na iiral itong habagat, pero makakaapekto ‘yan diyan lamang sa bahagi ng western side ng Mimaropa,” said Rojas.

(The habagat is expected to prevail over the western side of Mimaropa in the next few days.)

Meanwhile, the rest of Luzon, including Metro Manila, will experience hot and humid weather but short-lived thunderstorms should still be expected during the afternoon and evening, said Rojas.

Both the entire Visayas and Mindanao will also experience the same weather with the same chance of localized short-lived thunderstorms.

Pagasa forecast temperature range in key cities/areas for the next 24 hours:

  • Metro Manila: 24 to 33 degrees Celsius
  • Baguio City: 16 to 25 degrees Celsius
  • Laoag City:  24 to 32 degrees Celsius

No gale warning is also raised on the country’s seaboards where only moderate seas are expected in the West Philippine Sea while only slight to moderate sea conditions are expected in the rest of the country’s coasts.

“Malayang makakapalaot ang ating mga kababayan mangingisda at ‘yung may mga maliliit na sasakyang pandagat, dahil wala po tayong inaasahang malalakas na alon,” said Rojas

(Fishermen and those with small sea crafts will be able to sail freely, because no strong waves are expected in the country’s coasts.)
