MANILA, Philippines — Another 151 succumbed to COVID-19 complications, according to the Department of Health (DOH) on Monday, bringing the total recorded deaths to 31,961.

According to DOH, this death toll accounts for 1.72 percent of the total 1,857,646 confirmed COVID-19 cases since the virus reached the country in early 2020.

Meanwhile, global deaths, according to Johns Hopkins University COVID-19 tracker, currently stand at 4,431,569. Meaning, the local deaths in the country account for 0.72 percent of the total deaths worldwide.

In total, the DOH in August has added 3,573 deaths to the count of COVID-19 fatalities.

The DOH also logged the highest-recorded number of COVID-19 cases since the pandemic started at 18,332. It took the country just three days before breaking its last peak record which was set just three days ago.

The current surge is rooted in the spread of the more transmissible COVID-19 Delta variant.

The DOH then reminded the public to continue observing health protocols to contain the spread of COVID-19 as cases and the number of deaths continued to rise.
