MANILA, Philippines — The Office of the Vice President’s (OVP) Vaccine Express arrived in Pasig City on Saturday with the aim of further boosting the city’s COVID-19 vaccination drive.

According to Vice President Leni Robredo, the initiative targets to vaccinate those belonging to the A5 category or the city’s indigents.

The Vaccine Express, a revolutionized drive-thru vaccination concept, was earlier launched in Quezon City and Manila, where jeepney and tricycle drivers and delivery riders were inoculated against COVID-19. The program was also launched in Naga City and Iriga City in Camarines Sur where senior citizens and persons with comorbidity were vaccinated.

Robredo said the program will also be launched in San Pedro, Laguna, and in San Fernando, Pampanga.

“Sobrang happy po kami na dito sa Pasig, nag-start na ng A5 kasi iyon naman iyong gusto natin, ‘di ba, as fast as possible and as many members of the many sectors as possible lalo na ngayon na surge. Ngayon na surge, gusto natin na ma-doble pa iyong numbers ng vina-vaccinate,” she told reporters in an interview.

(We are very happy that we were able to vaccinate people in the A5 category here in Pasig. We want to vaccinate as many members of different sectors as fast as possible, especially now that there is a surge in cases. Now that there is a surge, we want to double the number of people who get vaccinated.)

The OVP earlier said they aim to vaccinate 4,000 residents of Pasig City this Saturday and Sunday at the Manggahan High School in Karangalan Village through the Vaccine Express.

Robredo said the vaccines were supplied by the Pasig City government unit and the OVP only helped in deploying the jabs.
