ZAMBOANGA CITY — A man who was cleaning a grass-covered basketball court in Sta. Maria village here found unexploded rifle grenades on Friday afternoon (Aug. 20).
Colonel Rexmel Reyes, the director of the Zamboanga City Police Office, said Carlos Aguilar III, who works as a driver for a local company, reported his discovery to the police which immediately sent a team of ordnance experts to safely dispose of the two unexploded rifle grenades.
Reyes said rifle grenades are considered high explosives and could trigger explosions with a killing radius of 25 meters while shrapnel could fly as far as 100 meters.
Reyes said an investigation is ongoing to determine how the rifle grenades ended up in the grassy area of the village.
