MANILA, Philippines — The Caloocan City government has started home COVID-19 vaccination of bedridden seniors as part of its initiative to reach out to people who cannot go to inoculation sites.
According to Caloocan City Mayor Oscar Malapitan, the local government’s mobile vaccination team now makes home vaccinations for bedridden senior residents or persons with disabilities. The team is using the single-dose Janssen COVID-19 vaccine from Johnson & Johnson in its program.
Malapitan stressed that bedridden residents still need protection against the disease even if they do not go out of their homes.
“Batid natin na kahit hindi sila lumalabas ng kanilang bahay ay kailangan pa rin nila ng proteksyon dahil mas vulnerable o madali silang kapitan ng sakit,” he said.
(We know that even if they don’t go out of their homes, they still need protection because they are more vulnerable to sickness.)
The city government said those who want to book a schedule for the mobile vaccination may coordinate with the Office of the Senior Citizens Affairs at 288 88 11 local 2258 or with the Persons With Disabilities Affairs Office at 288 88 11 local 2269.
Caloocan City has 1,675 active COVID-19 cases. A total of 236 additional cases were confirmed on Saturday.
The city government has so far administered 1.07 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine, including 705,209 as the first dose and 370,519 as second jabs as of August 19.
