A man was injured after getting into a gunfight with someone he thought was a home intruder, but who turned out to be his wife’s boyfriend who had been secretly living in their house for at least one day.
Frank Reeves was told by his wife, Tracy, that someone broke into their home in Alabama in the United States last Sunday, Aug. 15, as per CBS affiliate WKRG on Aug. 17.
Frank and the intruder, Michael Amacker, who both had firearms at the time, then exchanged shots inside the home. Tracy did not inform her husband, however, that the said intruder was his longtime boyfriend whom she let live inside their house secretly.
“She had been allowing him to stay within the home for a couple of days, providing him food, there were bottles of urine in the room which indicated he had been in there for a little while,” Captain Paul Burch of the Mobile County Sheriff’s office was quoted as saying.
Frank suffered a gunshot to the chest, while Amacker was shot in the leg, the report said. Both men were taken to the hospital.
Police said drugs were also involved in the incident, as Tracy was high on methamphetamine during the incident and could not be interviewed properly by police when they arrived.
Amacker, a convicted felon, faced several charges including attempted murder, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of a firearm with an altered serial number, according to the report.
Authorities also noted that Amacker is well-known in the meth community and has faced multiple charges in the past regarding the illegal substance, such as manufacturing and possessing.
Investigators were still trying to determine if Tracy only ratted Amacker out to her husband due to the paranoia caused by meth use, or if it was a “murder-for-hire” situation. Ian Biong /ra
