BACOLOD CITY The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has rejected calls to extend voter registration beyond the September 30 deadline.

But, according to Comelec Commissioner Rowena Guanzon, they will extend the registration hours.

Starting August 25, Guanzon said the voter registration will start from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Monday to Friday.

Registration on Saturdays and holidays will be from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Guanzon said the Comelec cannot extend the voter registration beyond September 30 because they have to finish the preparation of the precincts by October 2021.

“It is not possible to extend the registration deadline even for a week as it will affect preparations for the May 9, 2022 polls,” she said.
