PH’s COVID-19 fatalities now at 30,462 as additional 96 patients die

MANILA, Philippines — The COVID-19 death toll in the country rose to 30,462 as 96 more succumbed to the disease, the Department of Health (DOH) reported Tuesday.
Total casualties from COVID-19 represent 1.73 percent of the 1.76 million confirmed cases of the coronavirus nationwide since 2020.
The DOH also reported that beds at various intensive care units (ICUs) for severe and critical COVID-19 patients are 71 percent utilized at the national level and 69 percent utilized in Metro Manila.
The DOH earlier noted a decline in deaths per actual date in the previous months until July. But on August 13, Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said that “nationally, deaths are now showing signs of a plateau which indicates a possible increase in the following weeks.”
Data from previous case bulletins from the DOH showed there are a total of 2,576 deaths so far reported for the month of August.
Also on Tuesday, the health agency said the country’s active infections stood at 105,787, of which 1.3 percent are severe while 0.7 percent are critical and are at higher risk for death.
The DOH further noted that 96.1 percent of the total active cases are mild, 0.9 percent are asymptomatic, and 0.90 percent are moderate cases.
