CITY OF MALOLOS—The Bulacan government has tapped about 300 school and police nurses for its COVID-19 vaccination drive to allow its healthcare workforce to focus on treating COVID-19 patients in Bulacan Medical Center COVID-19 facility, an official said Sunday (Aug. 15).
In an interview, Gov. Daniel Fernando said the Department of Education and the Philippine National Police have already granted his recent request for the additional nurses to temporarily work for the provincial government as Bulacan continues to experience a virus surge.
The move was part of the province’s “Hospital Surge Plan” that was immediately implemented when Bulacan recently began to experience the resurgence of COVID-19 outbreaks.
Bulacan, which was previously placed on general community quarantine with heightened restrictions, has reverted to stricter modified enhanced community quarantine starting Aug. 16 until 31.
It has already recorded 3,109. active cases out of the 49, 421 infections registered since last year. The province’s death toll stood at 1,033.
