LUCENA CITY––More than 296,000 residents in Quezon province have been vaccinated against COVID-19.
These are almost 20 percent of at least 1,485,981 residents targeted to achieve herd immunity. Quezon has 2,122,830 population as of the 2015 census.
The Quezon public information office (PIO), citing data from the Integrated Provincial Health Office, reported on Monday that 75,922 residents received their second dose of the vaccine as of Aug. 14. This is 5 percent of the target to achieve herd immunity.
The PIO report also said 220,753 residents were injected with the first dose.
Quezon, which remains under general community quarantine with heightened restrictions, still has 1,217 active cases as of Sunday, Aug. 15, from 705 active infections on July 23.
Candelaria town, which has become the epicenter of the sudden spike in COVID-19 cases, accounts for almost 25 percent or 305 of the total active cases.
The COVID-19 death toll in Quezon has risen to 851 as of Sunday after two validated virus carriers passed away in Candelaria and Tiaong towns and another one in Tagkawayan.
On Friday, the DOH revealed that Quezon has seven confirmed Delta variant cases found in the towns of Dolores (4), Sariaya (2), and Tiaong (1).
At least three of the patients with Delta variant in Dolores have since recovered, the PIO said.
