ORMOC CITY – At least 1,100 mangroves were planted by local authorities at the shores of Barangay Punong Matalom in Leyte on Saturday, August 14.

Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) district commander Captain Angelo Viliran said planting of mangroves helps in the protection of the coast lines.

Aside from the PCG Eastern Visayas District, the other agencies who took part in the activity were troopers from the 14th Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army based in Mahaplag, Leyte and the local police.
