DOH records 233 new COVID-19 deaths; PH’s death toll crosses 30,000-mark

MANILA, Philippines — The number of COVID-19 deaths in the country is now at 30,070 after the Department of Health (DOH) reported 233 new deaths on Saturday, April 14.

The DOH also revealed that it reclassified 142 recoveries as deaths after the final validation of cases.

The 30,070 deaths represent 1.74 percent of the total confirmed COVID-19 cases in the country, which now stands at 1.727 million.

Earlier, the country again posted the highest single-day increase in cases with 14,249 new infections, pushing the active case count to 98,847.

According to the DOH COVID-19 bulletin, the current active case count represents 5.7 percent of the total confirmed cases.

There were also 11,714 recoveries recorded, pushing the total recovery count to 1,598,314.

The DOH reminds the public to continue observing health protocols to contain the spread of COVID-19 as cases and the number of deaths continues to rise.

“Sa patuloy na pagtaas ng mga kaso, pinaaalaalahanan po natin ang lahat na patuloy na sumunod sa minimum public health standards. Kapag naman nakaranas ng mga sintomas ay agad na mag isolate at kontakin ang inyong Barangay Health Emergency Response Teams,” the DOH said.

The DOH said that while all laboratories were operational last August 12, four labs were not able to submit their data to the COVID-19 Document Repository System.

The four laboratories that did not submit data accounted for 3.4 percent of all the samples tested, and 2.8 percent of all the positive cases, the DOH said.
