COVID-19 Delta variant detected in Tuguegarao City

MANILA, Philippines — Tuguegarao City now has a confirmed case of COVID-19 Delta variant, its mayor announced on Saturday.

“Mayroon na po kaming Delta variant, na-confirm sa amin as of the other night, na-confirm na sa akin ng DOH (Department of Health),” Mayor Jefferson Soriano said in a public briefing.

“We have already one but I am sure as the sun rises in the east that’s it’s not the only one,” he added.

Soriano said the patient was found to be positive since July 13 and has already recovered.

The patient has two more companions in the residence, who also contracted the virus but they have also recovered, according to Soriano.

“Tatlo sila sa bahay nila, positive din yung girlfriend niya at saka sister-in-law niya, but sa tingin ko ang naipadalang sample ng DOH na sample is ‘yung kanya, nagkataon na kanya ang naipadala sa genome center,” he added.

(There’s three of them in one household, the girlfriend and sister-in-law also tested positive, but I think it just happened that the DOH brought the sample of this particular patient to the genome center.)
