A landlord fatally shot two tenants and seriously injured one over a rent dispute in Las Vegas, Nevada, in the United States.
The landlord, identified as 78-year-old Arnoldo Lozano-Sanchez, shot and killed two female tenants and shot nine times a male tenant, as per Associated Press via Fox 5 Vegas on Aug. 10.
The suspect surrendered after a one-hour standoff with police in the wee hours of the same day at the pink one-story home. Lt. Ray Spencer disclosed that they had confiscated a 9mm handgun from Lozano-Sanchez.
Police found the critically injured man coming out the door and the women both dead inside the house, according to the report. The victims, whose names were not disclosed, were all in their 50s.
The male has since been hospitalized and is in critical condition, but is expected to survive.
Spencer said that while authorities still did not know the specifics, witnesses claimed that the dispute was indeed over unpaid rent.
Lozano-Sanchez has since told police that he did not want to go through the eviction processs, so he handled things “his way,” as per AP via NBC New York on Aug. 11.
The suspect “made statements about the victims not paying rent and that he was certainly upset about it,” Chief Deputy District Attorney Tim Fattig was quoted as saying.
A judge has ordered Lozano-Sanchez to remain in jail without bail on murder and attempted murder charges, according to the report. He is set to appear in court next week. Ian Biong /ra
